Milan is the perfect destination for all year round travel. With La Scala Opera House performing operas most nights of the season (barring late August time), taking in a night at the opera has never been easier!
Whilst planning your Milan holiday for 2018 you have the choice between more mainstream operas including Simon Boccanegra, Aida, Fidelio and Die Flendermaus. If however you are more of the opera connoisseur then Don Pasquale, Orphee et Eurydice, Ernani and Fin de Partie and many others might be on your wish list. Alternatively, why just stick to the opera? You could opt for either one night at the opera and one for the ballet, enjoying Le Corsaire, Don Chisciotte, L’historire de Manon or many others.
Your Milan holiday has plenty more opportunities as well as La Scala though. With the Duomo nearby and Santa Maria delle Grazie church which houses Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper” painting, we have the perfect day of historical discovery for you with our guided tour.
If your schedule permits tag on a few days in nearby Lake Maggiore, or if you want another city then Verona, Venice and Florence are all easily reached in little time. If you are travelling during the summer months, the fantastic Roman arena in Verona begins their opera season, where for June, July and August guests can enjoy a night at the opera in an open-air arena. Showcasing in 2018 are Aida, Carmen, Turandot, Nabucco and The Barber of Seville. As if this wasn’t enough choice there is also Roberto Bolle & Friends on the 25 July and a Special Opera Night on the 26 August.
When looking outside of the summer months to travel, you could also combine your Milan holiday with some time in Venice. Whilst this floating city has plenty of wonderful culture to explore, it also has La Fenice opera house and its own fantastic schedule, including The Barber of Seville, La Traviata, La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, Norma, to list but a few.
The best time to travel? It has to be the spring and autumn months for stretching out a bit more sun and warmer climates but without the crowds. At the moment the flight prices from Gatwick to Milan for spring 2017 are extremely good value and so I would definitely recommend looking at these months if you want a good price. From today Easyjet have released their schedule up to the end of October 2017, so another good reason to take advantage and plan ahead (Heathrow flights do have a higher price tag).
