Day 2
Private Guided Ancient Rome Day and Evening Historical Lights and Laser Show

After breakfast your private guide will take you for a half day tour of ancient Rome.

Feel as if you have been taken back in time following in the footsteps of the gladiators in the Coliseum. Walk through the remains of the Roman Forum viewing what was once the centre of elections, criminal trials and public speeches.

Make sure to find time to see Augustus’s Arch, which spanned the road between the three main temples – Temple of Castor and Pollux, Caesar and Vesta.

The guide will take you onto the Trevi Fountain where you can throw a coin in. One coin means you will return to Rome, two find a new love, three marriage!

The tour continues onto The Spanish Steps, Via Condotti; the designer shopping street of Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo and the Pantheon. Be sure to notice the “demon hole” in the centre of the Pantheon when the light shines through!

At this point your guide will leave you to your own devices for some time at leisure.

This evening head to the Imperial Forum for your Historical Lights and Laser Show. Be entertained by the history of Rome showcased by lasers against the backdrop of the Old Forum. The show lasts for around 45mins – 1hr before you are free to wander back to your hotel.

DAY 5
Private Transfer to the Catacombs before transfer to the airport

DAY 5
Private Transfer to the Catacombs before transfer to the airport

No tour of Rome is complete without a trip to the underground catacombs.

On your private transfer to the airport, take a detour for the short distance to the Appian Way, which is the entrance of the catacombs.

Get to view the underground cemeteries, where Christian and Jews were buried.

In the past it was usual for the families to gather here to say the funeral rites and to visit on set occasions. As overcrowding was a problem, many were buried here, dating back to before 400AD.

This is certainly an eerie experience!

After this your driver will take you onto the airport for your flight home after your Rome Short Break.

Alternatively, if you are travelling to Rome during July and August time and you love opera and/or ballet, then why not do our Splendours of the Caracalla Rome Festival break. Opera with a backdrop of historical thermal bath ruins is certainly original!

Or, if you want to extend your Italian adventure, you could choose to add in a few nights in Sorrento enjoying Pompeii, Herculaneum and the beauty of Capri.

Testimonials

Thank you so much – the trip to Rome was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The hotel was so central and the rooftop terrace was the perfect spot for breakfast. The tours were fantastic with our wonderful guide Ingrid – I feel so knowledgeable now! We used our free day to go to Naples which was really different to Rome but we found some fantastic things to do. Now all I have to do is burn off all the carbs from the delicious pasta and pizza!

Thank you to you and the team for organising a fantastic trip.

Jess and Martin Barnett

I truly think that you operate to a very high standard. We have had unfailing help, support and kindness from everyone we’ve dealt with in your organisation.
