Day 2
Day at Leisure

Day at leisure to use your Venice Pass Card. This provides free beat the queues access to both the Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica.

The Doge’s Palace is the seat of power for the reigning Doge’s through the centuries. The palace has many rooms adorned with artworks of them, along with many other treasures. As you wander through the rooms, you will soon come to The Bridge of Sighs, so named as it was the last view of the outside world that the prisoners had before entering the prison. Get to see the cell that Casanova famously escaped from as you continue your walk.

Next, head to St Mark’s Basilica. This is an eclectic East meets West basilica which while strongly Venetian, also has a nod to the Ottoman design structurally. It is worth paying 3 euros per person for access to the roof, for the lovely views over St Mark’s Square.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to find out more about these quintessential Venetian buildings and their treasures, why not add in our Optional Extra Private Highlights Tour with your own guide.

This is our most popular tour and with good reason. You take a private transfer to the pier where you will join a public boat, to be taken across the scenic lake arriving at the privately owned Isola del Garda.

Once there you will be given a tour of the island, perhaps even by the Borghese Cavazza family themselves, and get to learn the history of the island. The tour will include the neo gothic Venetian style villa, the landscaped luscious gardens and the fantastic view over the lake, along with tasting some of the local wine and olive oil.

After arriving back on the mainland, your private transfer will take you to Sirmione, a mediaeval castle town where you can wander at your leisure through the town, purchase some souvenirs and enjoy lunch. We recommend La Speranzina Restaurant which boasts beautiful views over the lake.

Day 7
Private Guided Tour of the Duomo

This morning your guide will take you to the Duomo for your private guided tour. The Duomo is the main gothic style church in Florence. It was completed in 1436 with the famous dome created by Filippo Brunelleschi. To date it is still one of the largest in the world. The cathedral consists of the Baptistery and Giotto’s Campanile, which between them are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

At this point your guide will leave you to your own devices for your rest of day at leisure. You are free to explore this city on foot, or we can recommend some great options!

If you have never been to Florence before, then you cannot leave without seeing Michelangelo’s David statue and Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, however, the queues for both are lengthy and can see you spending hours in the heat.

We recommend adding our Priority Line Passes for timed access where you can avoid such a long wait. Alternatively, if you love your Dan Brown, then a trip to Florence is not complete without a guided tour of the Vasari Corridor which is a secret passageway linking the Uffizi and Pitti Palaces. Again Professor Langdon used this as a means to escape from danger.

However, if you have been to Florence before then we recommend a walk to the Medici Chapels and the Galileo Museum. If you still have a spare hour, for a quirky extra, head to Dante’s House, which is used a museum for all things Dante.

Testimonials

We’ve had a fantastic time and experience! A huge part of being able to completely relax and enjoy the holiday was that everything from start to finish with yourselves had been superbly and efficiently arranged. It has been a pleasure dealing with you and having our holiday arranged by you. The hotels were excellent, with friendly and helpful staff. Also the standard of transfer vehicles and drivers was excellent too. It helps so much when you know everything has been arranged to such a standard.

Judith and Phillip

I have to say on behalf of Carol and myself that the trip was as close to perfect as to be unbelievable. The transfers and hotels, were brilliant and the Opera took the experience to a whole new level. I really do not know how to thank you all for your help in arranging this trip of a lifetime, other than to offer our heartfelt thanks to you.
